PSHE

PSHE

At Longworth School we believe that PSHE underpins everything we do and is at the heart of our belief that we are ‘Nurturing Curious Minds’. We follow the PSHE Association question based curriculum. Our PSHE themes; Relationships; Living in the wider world and Health and wellbeing are intertwined with our school’s values: be kind; respectful; persevere and be curious. We are aware of local trends in health and well-being and the annual Oxfordshire Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) is used to inform planning.

We directly teach PSHE following the PSHE curriculum. There are weekly lesson in KS1 and 2 and the themes are integrated throughout our EY provision as PSED is a Prime Area in the Foundation Stage Curriculum. We have incidental PSHE teaching through events and special day / weeks – Anti bullying week, charity days such as Hello Yellow etc. PSHE is an integral part of our daily routines such as the daily ‘Colour Monster’ or the ‘Blob Tree’ which are used by children to express how they are feeling and the use of the Restorative Approaches to understand how behaviours can be improved.

PSHE is concerned with developing and nurturing the total well-being of a child. This includes:

  • Personal and interpersonal skills.
  • Making healthy choices-both physical and mental.
  • Promoting spiritual and moral well-being.
  • Showing an awareness of citizenship and enterprise.
  • Sex and relationships education.
  • Drugs education.

Our aim is to have children who:

  • Are kind and respectful.
  • Demonstrate perseverance.
  • Are healthy.
  • Stay safe.
  • Enjoy and achieve.
  • Stay curious,
  • Make a positive contribution.
  • Achieve economic well-being.
  • Are understanding and tolerant of other people and their beliefs and lifestyles.
